Looking for aliens.
Gosh, it’s been awhile since I wrote one of these.
This morning, I was sitting on the couch with my laptop, and had some inspiration to write. I don’t really know what this one is going to be about, so in the spirit of FAFO, we’re just gonna send it and see what happens.
This last year has been chaos, mentally & professionally. 2025 was a year of fighting off anxiety over what’s next, fear of failure, and trying to cope by spending way too much money on gear while AI makes me obsolete. Meanwhile the world is turning and burning at an incomprehensible rate with no end in sight. Billy Joel was right.
Just kidding about the AI part. More on that later on.
I am thankful for 2025 though. It was somewhat of a renaissance year. I have a tendency to swing too far in one direction, and last year obsessively pulled me back towards the creative side of my brain. On a whim, I started freelancing photography and videography, and did some cool projects along the way. I found peace behind a camera, made a record with a pal, and my band is finally about to release music. I shot some more youtube videos, which I’m hoping to keep that train rolling this year.
I also took on way too many projects, commitments, and creative ventures that leaked into January of this year. I’m determined to not let that happen this year.
Reflecting as the first month of 2026 is coming to a close, I want this year to be a year of embracing calm. For me, that’s taking on less commitments, honing in focus, and avoiding overload at all costs. My dad used to say “you can’t do it all in a day” when I was a kid, and he’s right. The power of “No” is a real thing. I want to get more of my time back, stop worrying about what’s next, and build a future where I’m serving the people that I care about and doing what I love, but not at the expense of family or mental health.
What’s Next for RCC?
This newsletter started as a way for me to nerd out with you about cool tech and music, but somehow got scatterbrained into other things like photography, creative direction, and whatever other impulse I had to satisfy at the time.
Moving forward, RCC is getting back to it’s roots: cool tech, software, and good music for creators. I plan on building in public a lot more, so you can see what I’m working on while I’m working on it.
Expect more focused articles in shorter formats, and don’t worry, the Weekly Pull Request isn’t going anywhere.
2025 was turbulent, but much needed. As we get into February, it is time to edit the things that are not serving me or the communities I care about. Lack of focus made this newsletter go on pause, which killed any momentum and consistency that I had left. Not letting that happen again. Not this year.
I’d love to hear what you’re working on this year. Shoot me an email and tell me about it!
Stay Creative. Stay Caffeinated.
Paps.
