I’m not a huge fan of WordPress—at least not in most cases.

Now, before you grab the pitchforks, hear me out: it’s not WordPress itself. Hats off to the developers who built and maintain it—they’ve done amazing work. My issue lies in how WordPress is often misused by people, including developers who don’t fully understand it. Sure, WordPress can be powerful in the right hands, but let’s face it—most folks aren’t PHP developers, nor do they invest the time needed to really unlock its potential.

I get it, though. WordPress sells itself as an all-in-one solution: simple, low-code development with a feature-packed, self-maintained backend. Grab a theme, plug in some copy (which you can now generate using AI—check out my article on that!), and bam—you’re done. Throw in plugins like Yoast, and it sounds like an SEO dream.

For small mom-and-pop shops, that might work. But here’s the thing—you’re not a mom-and-pop shop. You’ve got bigger dreams for your brand, and you’re ready to scale. So, why does your website feel like it’s stuck in the past?

Slow performing, outdated Front-End.

The good news: there are better tools out there to help you level up your web presence and drive growth. And guess what? You don’t have to leave good ol’ WordPress behind.

To be clear: the problem isn’t WordPress. It’s how you use it in 2024.

Meet the Headless CMS.

What’s that? It’s a backend-only content management system, where you bring your own front-end and connect it via API—think of it like a truck and trailer. This is where we can take your old WordPress site, ditch the clunky front-end, and still keep all that valuable content you’ve built up over the years.

Here’s a quick example: let’s say you want to move your site to a modern framework like Next.js. You can access your WP backend to perform CRUD operations on your data via REST or GraphQL. You don’t need to migrate your database, and suddenly, your website is more scalable than ever. Even better, since WordPress is your backend, you can use it for multiple sites or apps, all running different tech stacks.

Just like that, you have the best of both worlds. A robust, reliable backend coupled with a responsive, performative, modern front-end.

Building a truly impactful web presence takes time, attention to detail, and the right tools. If you’re ready to stand out in your niche, consider modernizing your front-end while keeping your WordPress backend intact.
