Riffs

Mammoth - Mammoth

The End - Mammoth

Boy have I been sleeping on Mammoth. I recently read an article in Guitar World (yes, I still subscribe to Guitar World! Magazines are still cool, right?) with Wolfgang Van Halen about his band’s album, which came out today!

These guys are the future of rock. It’s damn good, simple as that. Incredible vocals and the riffs….. oh my gosh the riffs. It’s nice to actually here something fresh that nods to the old while embracing the new. I highly, highly recommend checking these guys out.

I haven’t listened to the new record, as I found out that it dropped just moments before writing this. So be on the lookout for a review next week!

Fun fact: Wolf uses Eddie’s Frankenstein guitar on every record. He said in the GW interview that Frankenstein is an untamed animal when you plug it in, and considering what I’ve read about that guitar and Eddie’s mad science behind it, I believe it.

Code

There’s a new kid on the block, and his name is ‘Zed’

I love tinkering with new tech. And when a new tool comes along that can help out my dev workflow, I get extra geeked.

Meet Zed. A new code editor that has the potential to change the game for devs. Zed has been around for a little bit now, but is recently getting spotlight for the updates it’s been pushing. I think me, like most devs, have been keeping an eye on this platform because it is exactly what we want out of our editors, but was lacking some of the features we needed to make the switch from VSCode (did I mention I can’t stand Microsoft? lol)

Built with the Rust programming language, Zed is incredibly lightweight, and has awesome features like live collaboration for paired programming, a beautiful git interface, and support for github copilot, as well as their own AI Agent feature that you can subscribe to. I personally use copilot, so I haven’t tried their solution yet.

I pulled open a project in Zed yesterday and was very happy with the experience. It is extremely customizable, but it’s so nice not seeing my macbook freak out about RAM usage like when I’m using VSCode or the resource hungry JetBrains suite.

Still waiting on a fully functional editor for my iPad, but for now, I’m really liking Zed. More thoughts to come I’m sure.

The Tampa Bay Coffee & Art Festival is back, and this time, bigger than ever! And I’m super stoked to announce that sudo.create partnered with the fine folks over at TBCAF to deliver a web-app to help share media from the event, which will also be shot by me! 📸

So come say hey, enjoy some delicious coffee, and check out some of the coolest art and businesses that Tampa (and the state of Florida!) has to offer.

Tampa Bay Coffee & Art Festival is Saturday, Oct. 25th at the Florida State Fairgrounds
